After losing 31,000 trees in 1977 to Dutch Elm disease, People for Parks was created to allow companies and concerned citizens to help fund the replacement of these beautiful elms.
People for Parks expanded its membership and mission of improving Minneapolis and its parks. Nearly three decades later, People for Parks continues its work as an independent, non-profit citizens group whose funding decisions are not influenced by politics or special interests.
Past successes have included improving Theodore Wirth Park lighting and signage, helping to create the Lake Harriet Rock Garden, and supporting the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra.
