Please note, that in order to preserve the joyful atmosphere at the Bandshell, MPRB has requested that these benches and pavers not use words such as “in memory of”. “In honor of”, "Celebrating" or "Honoring" are good alternatives.

                                                Benches
Adoption of a Lake Harriet Bandshell bench brings with it the following:
    • The engraving of your message on the topmost of the bench slats.
    • Repairs and maintenance to the bench as needed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board during the 10 year period.
The slat with your inscription will remain in place for a period of ten years from adoption. At that time, you will have the option to renew your adoption of the bench for a subsequent five-year or ten-year period. Cost of that second five-year adoption will be an additional donation of $400.00. Cost of a second, ten year adoption would be $800.00.

We estimate the useful life of the current, refurbished benches to be about twelve years. It is our hope that using the renewal donations will enable maintenance and/or replacement of the wood so that they will not fall into decay.

For tax purposes we consider your adoption of this bench a donation to People for Parks, where no goods or services were received by you above the engraving cost (nominal value $100 per slat).

                                                    Pavers
People for Parks is using environmentally friendly Holland Grand Permeable paving stones featuring wide, crushed-stone-filled joints that are layered over a crushed stone base allowing water to drain through the surface.

    The Healing Powers of Remembering

    Picture
The purpose of memorials is to preserve and eternalize the name, memory, or deeds of those we love, honor, and appreciate. They are personally relevant, intimate, or private, as well as very public forms of expression in which we honor and eternalize the memories of others. These icons of remembrance play a critical role in the healing process after loss, trauma, and tragedies; as well as providing a way to publicly acknowledge the generosity, exceptional deeds and works of the living.

Memorials are appropriate for the following purposes, occasions, and persons:
    •  To commemorate or preserve a person(s) or events.
    • To honor a deed or action.
    • To celebrate special or momentous occasions such as a wedding, birth, graduation, anniversary or other accomplishments.
    • To establish a place for reflection.
    • To commemorate friends.
    • To commemorate public servants.
    • To recognize special dates and momentous occasions.
    • Memorialize a beloved pet.
    • And so on...
