David Hedding, President David discovered People for Parks through his work with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. As the Lead Sound Technician for MPRB, David traveled around the park system setting up equipment for the popular Music and Movies in the Parks summer series. His education in Sound Engineering prepared him to work as the Head Engineer for the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra at the Lake Harriet Bandshell, which he continues to do every July. Currently, David is enrolled as a student in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota pursuing a Masters in Landscape Architecture. David joined People for Parks in 2013 and was elected President of the board in 2016. One of David’s favorite things is to ride his bike on the many trails connecting our incredible Minneapolis Parks, especially along the Mississippi River.
Kari Johnson, Vice President Kari recently moved back to Minneapolis after spending some time in London and Washington, DC. While she is from northern Minnesota, Kari loves Minneapolis and enjoys the amazing park system here, especially biking around on the trails, playing volleyball, and ice skating. She is excited to be involved in People for Parks because it is a great way to connect with communities all over the city.
Angie Rader, Secretary Angie was a long-time resident of Minneapolis with her wife and son before recently making the move to the suburbs. She's excited to serve on the board for People for Parks as a way to stay connected to Minneapolis while supporting an organization whose work has such a broad and positive impact. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family (often at Wabun Park!), walking her dogs, and baking.
Jay Halvorson, Treasurer Jay has been a life long user of the Minneapolis Park System. He came in contact with People For Parks while working with the Falls For All Committee on the Wabun playground project in 2010 and joined the board a short time later. As a non-Minneapolis resident serving on the board begins to repay for a lifetime of enjoyment and enrichment provided by the parks.
Amy Johnson, Board Member Amy owned and operated a restaurant with a community focused mindset in Minneapolis for four years. Throughout her time in Minneapolis she had the pleasure of enjoying many experiences in our parks with her family and friends. Being a member of the People for Parks board gives her the opportunity to give back so everyone in our community can play and create memories in our world class park system.
Dan Peterson, Board Member Daniel is a proud North Minneapolis resident and People for Parks board member since 2016. He enjoys the Theodore Wirth golf course during the summer, and hopes to learn how to cross country ski on the Wirth trails this winter. He joined the board to help ensure the future of the parks around the entire city of Minneapolis.
Elliot Novak, Board Member Elliot is a Minneapolis native who likes to ride bikes, hike, and attend events in the parks. An avid volunteer for most of his life, he has been active in various organizations since moving back to Minneapolis in 2014. He is excited to be with People for Parks because it connects his interests in volunteering and park activities with a longer-term volunteer role.
Colleen Dillon, Board Member Colleen is a lover of nature and hikes the city, state and national parks in the U.S. whenever she can. This love of parks led her to find People For Parks where she hopes to engage in projects that make an immediate, positive community impact. She is a singer/songwriter who is continuing her growth and lifelong learning as a musician by participating in several local songwriting and performance groups. She has 2 children, 4 grandchildren and a new puppy that keep her laughing!
