Amber Waves
People for Parks' first grant in 2012 was for an art installation at Bohemian Flats Park, along the Mississippi (2200 West River Parkway). Artist Tom Henry (who some of you may remember created a living sunflower wall out by the airport last year) has created 850 feet of three wheat rows for a combined total of a half-mile of wheat growing in the heart of Minneapolis. The wheat harvested at the end of the season will be ground and distributed to area food shelves. In addition to its artistic value, the unique art installation is drawing attention to this currently under-utilized park, which features walking paths, a boat launch, and a picnic area.
